Soaking & Sprouting Basics
Posted on January 28, 2015
I thought this was a beautifully displayed chart for soaking and sprouting your nuts, seeds, and grains, so I wanted to share it with you.
Since our grains don’t get rained on out in the fields for any length of time after harvesting anymore, we need to do a little “self-watering” to help reduce the phytic acid that protects the seeds. Adding a bit of apple cider vinegar aids this process considerably.Once your nuts, seeds, and grains have soaked for the appropriate length of time, you can easily dehydrate them to keep for longer periods of time. Grains can be stored and ground for flour, as well. You can purchase sprouted grain products, but why not make your own?
To add some variety to your dried snacks, try adding some spices and favorite seasonings before dehydrating. Just sprinkle on, and the moisture should enable them to stick until the drying process is complete. Soaked nuts and seeds can also be turned into nut milks and seed milks in a blender, by adding some water and whirring away! Or, try making your own nut butters by blending in some healthy oils and sea salt.
Soak, sprout, and enjoy!
The sky is the limit on what you can do with your healthy and wholesome home-made goodies. Yum!
